Monday 13 July 2009UK Government’s new programme focuses on skills
The UK Government launched its Draft Legislative Programme titled “New Industry, New Jobs” on June 29. The focus of the programme is on improving skills, supporting low-carbon services and industries, the continued openness of the global trading system and ensuring government action across departmental boundaries.
The British Chamber of Shipping said it welcomed the programme. “The Government’s Draft Legislative Programme certainly suggests that we should see a more positive and joined-up approach to the needs of business generally and the shipping sector,” said Mark Brownrigg, Director-General of the Chamber of Shipping. “The focus on investment in skills development must reinforce UK shipping’s argument…for investment in junior officer training.”
