Danmark ready for unusual winter sailing
The Danish training ship Danmark is now preparing for an unusual winter sailing with 80 Angolan cadets on board. It’s the first time that the state-owned training ship, run by Martec at Frederikshavn, fixed an assignment in the winter season. The deal is done with Em Z Svitzer A/S, which need the 80 cadets as part of a terminal contract in Angola. Em Z Svitzer has won the contract to serve an LNG terminal for 25 years and part of the agreement is to educate and employ local crew members on the tugs. The 80 cadets will sign on at Lisbon, Portugal, and sail via Cap Verde and the Azores and back to Lisbon in the period from February to May 2011.
“We are very happy with the extended use of the Danmark and are hoping to gain more of these assignments in the future”, says Erik Møller, head of Martec. Usually the Danmark is laid up in the winter season.
