Monday 7 June 2010Samsa looks forward to shipping job creation
The South African Maritime Safety Association said on Tuesday the revival of the country’s shipping sector could create up to 248 000 jobs in five years.South Africa’s economy is largely based on commodity exports but South African registered ships handle a fraction of the transportation.
Samsa CEO Tsietsi Makhele said transporting at least 40 percent of South African exports on locally registered ships would create many jobs.
“Move away from being a commodity handler to insert yourself in the logistics and matters of actual transportation where you are controlling a fleet,” he said.
